Parents' Weekend 2010
November 6th & 7th we held our annual Pathway Parent's Weekend. In addition to some sessions we help for parents we were able to participate in the annual Dribble for the Cure event sponsored by the UCLA Men's and Women's basketball teams. Enjoy the photos.

I want to go to College
The folks at Thinkcollege.net have this video up on their site, and it says what a lot of young folks have been saying for years. I have heard that many young folks are showing this little video at their IEPs to help them make the case for preparing for college.

State of the Art
Last week I attended the State of the Art Conference on Postsecondary Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities held at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. In attendance were folks from around the country that are interested in students with intellectual disabilities attending college.
I was asked to present about Pathway - specifically what we are currently doing and how we plan on using the money from the federal TPSID grant. In my session, I presented along with folks from Highline Community College in Des Moines (Seattle area), Washington, Fresno State, and Louisiana State.
I must admit that I do not generally like going to conferences - and not just because it takes me a day to "unfold" from being crammed into an airplane - because rarely can I find sessions that deal with exactly what I do here at Pathway. Well, this conference was certainly different because everybody is doing or is interested in Pathway-like programs. Everyone was speaking my language! This was by far the best conference I have ever attended.
Partially, it was an opportunity to get out of the day-to-day to be reminded of the broader vision of where we are headed with Pathway. It was also a chance to be inspired by what others are doing.
Now that I am back, I have a whole host of ideas that I would like to implement - things to keep us "state of the art." I am now in the process of sythesizing my thoughts and ideas into doable steps - running my wacky ideas by a few folks to make sure I don't go too far afield along the way. So more to come...
