Countdown

We are in the final month before students return. Most everyone has gone on vacation - Mexico, England, Idaho...and now we are in the home stretch. Today we had our annual Roommate-a-Rama meeting where we all come together - this year it included Pathway, Creative Support and LACOE staff - and make the roommate assignments.

This is a big deal. We go into this process knowing that there is no perfect match and we will inevitably make poor matches. Our success rate is pretty high 75 to 80% - higher for returning students because we have a year of expereince with them, but for new students it is tougher. Roommate relations are experiential and so we have to make our most educated guess and go.

We do take the process very seriously and it is one of the hardest things we do every year - poor matches definitely will reverberate throughout the year.

In two weeks the Resident Advisors will start training - this year Rachael has done a great job putting together a very comprehensive training program for the RAs and we are looking forward to having them on board.
