Our Resident Advisors (RAs) work in the evenings, overnight and on the weekends so they interact with our students in a different way than I do. Here is a blog entry from Chie with the latest goings on. - Eric
Spring quarter has FINALLY arrived! After having a recharging Spring Break, the students are ready to tackle their last quarter and finish strong.
Many of them are working furiously on their portfolios to find their ideal jobs. One of the students, Colin said, “I’ve been working on this portfolio for quite some time. I’ve also been working at this designing place so hopefully I can land a job somewhere.”
Some of the students have already finished their resume and cover letter and have already sent it to prospective employers. Chelsea is one of the students who started their application process early. Chelsea said that she’s already finished her portfolio and have been sending her resume out already. “But I already have a backup plan,” Chelsea said. “I’m thinking of making my own dog sitting business. Plus, I already have few customers lined up for me so this will be my Plan B.” I guess some students are far more prepared and have thought this through and through.
Asides from studying, the RAs have planned out activities for the students to enjoy. RA Joe held a birthday party for Elena last quarter, which was a great success. Everyone celebrated her birthday with pizzas, cakes, ice creams and candies. The birthday girl gleefully enjoyed her party.
Speaking of food, RA Christine made meatloaf with students and even baked some cookies with them. “I think this is a great way for students to have fun while learning to live independently and gain some cooking skills,” RA Christine said. “The best part is, they get to eat it too!”
Some of the activities coming up soon are movies night, backgammon and a tour of the UCLA’s Mildred Botanical Garden. “We’re hoping to get as many students involved and get the best and most of UCLA since it’s their last quarter,” RA Mily said
